Crisis Intervention Planning & Response
Even the most accomplished persons and organisations can suddenly find themselves in a crisis, often as the result of a unique event or series of circumstances. These can include workplace accidents or violence; community disasters such as fires, floods or storms; or even planned events where the number of people involved can naturally result in unpredictable incidents.
These situations often leave those affected experiencing a wide range of emotions that can include confusion, sadness, anger, or an overall sense of having lost control as the search for answers or attempts to move forward become difficult.
Behavioural Resources Australia offers a range of crisis planning and post-incident services designed to address the needs of groups or individuals in dealing with circumstances that exceed their usual resources. Working directly with Dan Petro, you will be supported throughout the process in a skilful and understanding way.
For over 20 years, Dan played a pivotal role in the development and operation of the Crisis Intervention unit for the San Diego Police Department. As the Operations and Training Administrator and later Deputy Coordinator, he developed a highly effective instruction and response model where he trained and supervised over 400 volunteer Crisis Interventionists over a two-decade period. These remarkable individuals have collectively responded to over 10,000 traumatic incidents and provided emotional and logistical support to over 50,000 people.
Dan has also coordinated crisis intervention services at high profile incidents including wildland fires, industrial accidents, SWAT operations, kidnappings, homicides, and other critical incidents. This required him to develop working relationships with a wide range of local, state and federal agencies including police and fire departments, lifeguard services, California Highway Patrol, and the FBI.
Participating on several committees and task forces, Dan has been involved in the crisis intervention response planning for several large scale events, including major international conferences, a national political convention, and two Super Bowls.
Dan has aided organisations and community groups in the aftermath of crisis situations as well. By creating a caring debriefing environment, Dan leads groups through a supportive review of the incident while facilitating any emotional support needed for those involved. The result is employees or volunteers are assisted and empowered, and the client organisation can continue to move forward to meet their ongoing responsibilities.
